I strive to guide students in becoming well-rounded musicians that develop a love for music that lasts a lifetime. I believe that anyone can learn to play an instrument, no matter their age or intent. I strive to bring out each student’s musical imagination and encourage creativity and self-expression through music. I believe that music should always be fun and I seek to show my students how fun music can be through play-based music lessons.

Chantal Beaulieu

I have been playing piano since age 8 and trumpet and violin since age 13. In 2014, I graduated from Laurentian University with a BA(Hons) in Music studying trumpet performance and music history. I furthered my education at the University of Ottawa, completing an MA in Music (Musicology) with a specialization in Gender Studies in 2019.

I am a member of the Canadian Federation of Musicians (Local 180) and I currently play in several ensembles in the Sudbury area: the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, the Northern Brass Choir and the Whispering River Orchestra (https://www.whisperingrivermusic.com/). I specialize in preparing students for piano and trumpet RCM examinations. I have also taken both the Teaching Elementary Piano course and the Teaching Intermediate Piano course online through the Royal Conservatory.

I am versed in a vast array of methods for the instruments I teach. One of my hobbies is collecting method books. I enjoy exploring various methods to find the right method that works for you and/or your child. I also specialize in teaching the Wunderkeys method for ages 2+. This was a method I discovered when I was asked to teach two sisters who were 2 and 3 years old. After 6 months of lessons, each student was able to identify quarter and half notes, and the values of each, as well as find middle C on the piano and play short rhythm based songs on middle C. Any age can learn and we are never too young to have fun with music!

I have over ten years of experience and teach a wide range of ages: from beginners to advanced: ages 2+. I am able to accommodate and meet the needs and learning style of each unique individual that I teach.

Shaun and Gabriella began taking private lessons with me at the beginning of the pandemic.

Shaun completed the Preparatory Violin Practical Exam (passing with 71%), while Gabriella took the Level 1 Practical Piano Exam (passing with 84%).

Gabriella has continued with the RCM method and has completed Level 2, 3 and 4 with honours. She is currently working on her level 6 exam. Gabriella will soon be found on the RCM honor roll: https://www.rcmusic.com/learning/examinations/recognizing-achievement/rcm-first-class-honor-roll

The RCM First Class Honor Roll is for students who received an 80% or higher on their most recent exam.

Wyatt is a former student from the Ottawa area. He is very talented on both the trumpet and piano! He took both piano and trumpet lessons with me while I was teaching in the Ottawa area (one year for trumpet and two for piano).
