My Story

I began playing piano at 8 years old and took private lessons until the end of grade 11.  I studied the RCM method and reached level 9 by age 16, while having already completed the Grade 2 Rudiments exam in grade 8. At the age of 13, I began studying the violin and trumpet. I took violin lessons whilst in grades 8 to 10 and continued learning this instrument under my own instruction. I started learning trumpet in music class at A.B. Ellis public school and continued playing this instrument in high school (EHS). While in high school, I played in the senior band starting in grade 9. I was also in the Northern Ontario All Star Jazz Band for three years while participating in the Northern Ontario Music Festival (NOMfest). In grades 9&10, I had the pleasure of being taught by Mike Jensen and in grades 11&12 by Tracy Mark (who is the second trumpet player in the Sudbury Symphony). During my last year of highschool, I took private trumpet lessons with Jodi Bourcier (who is now the chair trumpet player of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra).

I continued my music education at Laurentian University in Sudbury, studying classical trumpet performance and music history with a minor in history (specializing in canadian women's history). While at Laurentian, I was first trumpet in the Laurentian Concert Band, which was under the direction of Sally Lesk. I took trumpet lessons under the instruction of Peter Scherzinger. I also played in the Northern Brass Choir and the Sudbury Symphony, alongside several professors: Peter Scherzinger and Charlotte Leonard.

I then furthered my education at the University of Ottawa and gained a TA position in theory and history courses. In April 2019, I graduated with an MA in Music (Musicology & Theory) with a specialization in Gender Studies.

While in Ottawa, I worked full-time while completing my MA degree (full-time as well). I taught private lessons at two music schools: providing lessons on trumpet, piano, violin and music theory. I am also a self-taught, open-format, DJ and gained a position as a house DJ at a restaurant in the Byward Market called "EL Furniture Warehouse." I held this position for 4 and a half years.

I recently relocated and am now living in the Sudbury area. From September 2022 to July 2023, I held an elementary teaching position at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Espanola, ON. My position entailed teaching various subjects, including music to those with special needs (i.e. Tourette Syndrome, Autism and Cerebral Palsy). I am currently teaching private lessons and work for the City of Greater Sudbury Public Libraries as a Technical Services Clerk. Although I am not a programmer, I was given the opportunity to be a part of the TD Summer Reading Club Programming this past summer. I hosted a Piano Play-Along event at four library locations: Coniston, Copper Cliff, Garson and Lively.

I am a member in several ensembles in Sudbury; the Northern Brass Choir, the Nickel City Wind Ensemble, and the Sudbury Symphony. I have also recently become a member of the Whispering River Orchestra as section trumpet (2nd trumpeter). Our most recent event was the Summer Solstice Celebration this past June (June 20th - https://www.whisperingrivermusic.com/about-our-orchestra). You may have seen me playing third trumpet in the Sudbury Symphony's event "Waltz This Way" in March 2023; Lights, Camera, Symphony! in April 2024; and Classical Mega Hits in October 2024. Most recently, I was the third trumpet player in the Sudbury Symphony event last weekend held at Sudbury Secondary School, SSO Goes to Italy with Joey Niceforo (https://sudburysymphony.com/events/sso-goes-to-italy-with-joey-niceforo/) I can be found on the Sudbury Symphony website: https://sudburysymphony.com/meet-the-orchestra/.
